  • Years 1–10:
    All students study the Nature of Science alongside learning in the four context strands (Living World, Planet Earth and Beyond, Physical World, and Material World).
    1–10年级:

  • Years 11–13:
    Students can specialize in specific science disciplines, such as biology, chemistry, physics, or earth science.

  1. Nature of Science (Core Strand)
    This strand is the unifying foundation of the science curriculum.

    • Focus:
      Understanding what science is and how scientists work.
      Developing skills, attitudes, and values essential for comprehending the world.
      Appreciating the evolving nature of scientific knowledge.
      Learning how scientists conduct investigations and the societal value of science.
      Communicating scientific ideas and linking science to everyday decisions.
      重点:
      理解什么是科学,以及科学家如何工作。
      培养理解世界所需的技能、态度和价值观。

      All students must study this strand up to Year 10.

    Focuses on living organisms and their interactions with each other and the environment.

    • Focus:
      Understanding the diversity of life, life processes, and evolution.
      Exploring the impact of humans on living systems.
      Emphasizing New Zealand’s unique biodiversity and ecosystems.
      Developing informed decisions about biological issues, including sustainability.

  1. Planet Earth and Beyond
    Explores Earth’s systems, the solar system, and the universe.

    • Focus:
      Understanding the interdependence of Earth’s subsystems: geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere.
      Learning about human impact on these subsystems.
      Exploring the resources Earth provides and how humans act as stewards of these finite resources.
      Developing informed decisions regarding environmental protection and resource management.
      重点:
      理解地球的各个子系统(地圈、水圈、大气圈和生物圈)之间的相互依存关系。

    Examines physical phenomena such as light, sound, heat, electricity, and motion.

    Focuses on matter, its properties, and the changes it undergoes.

      Interpreting chemical changes and energy transformations.
      Using chemistry knowledge to tackle challenges like sustainability and material development.
